About DITOGA
DITOGA is an international Erasmus+ project coordinated by Jugend am Werk Steiermark from Austria and co-funded by the European Commission. The project's active runtime was from September 2018 until May 2021.
The project tackles the challenge to keep VET trainings up-to-date with recent job market needs by engaging VET graduates in an ongoing feedback loop that provides meaningful data for VET providers. Thereby, the project team strives to improve the quality and sustainability of vocational education and training (VET) throughout Europe.
The DITOGA partnership is assembled by six organisations from six EU countries: Austria, Italy, Finland, Spain, Belgium, and Ireland.
What does DITOGA mean?
We promise, only the name is complicated here.
DITOGA stands for:
“Digital tracking of vocational training graduates using auto-analytics to increase the quality and sustainability of vocational training and further education.”
The main goal is to help VET institutions to provide their students and graduates with state-of-the-art competences, skills and knowledge required at the job market.
Who benefits from DITOGA?
On the one hand, it benefits training and further education institutions (aka VET providers) and, on the other hand, young trainees and VET learners.
Vocational training institutions should be able to react more quickly to the changing demands of the labour market and adapt their training offers accordingly. In the future, apprentices should benefit from this in their training and, of course, in their jobs.
For example:
Manuel completed an apprenticeship as an office clerk. His work is easy for him, but he has a hard time keeping in touch with customers.
Lisa is a car mechanic. She knows a lot about cars, but she does not succeed in convincing her colleagues to implement new ideas.
What competences, skills or knowledge would Manuel and Lisa have needed to acquire in their VET training to make it easier for them to do their daily work?
This is exactly where the DITOGA project comes in.
How does the DITOGA project work?
In a first step, we asked young people, training institutions and companies what they were missing in vocational training, and talked about potential skill gaps, for example. From this input, we made a list with measurement criteria and a list of questions.
The next step was to develop an auto-analytics app for mobile phones to be used by VET graduates. The app enables young people who have completed their vocational training to give feedback on their training and their needs in a real life context. The answers from the app are anonymised, analysed and evaluated using a special software. Eventually, these results and deductions are made available to VET training institutions using the DITOGA Analytics Software.
Why should YOU get involved?
Because it’s important … and it’s fun.
The app works using selftracking software and by using a reward system. The basic questions are: Can I apply the things I learned in training to my job? And where would I have needed more or different competences? The more questions are answered, the more virtual reward trophies, so-called “badges”, are collected in the app and keep the user motivated to insert data and to excel at their current job. It supports VET institutions all over Europe to adapt their VET programmes to current developments in the business world.
